Competitive AAU & Travel Basketball
Train with purpose.
Compete together.
Represent something greater.
Deen Team Basketball is a competitive team program for serious student-athletes ready to develop through structured practices, team accountability, game preparation, tournaments, and higher-level competition.
Athletes compete in an environment grounded in faith, discipline, character, academic responsibility, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
For athletes ready
to take the next step.
Deen Team is designed for developing student-athletes who are ready to move beyond recreational basketball and commit to structured team development.
Serving athletes and families throughout the East Bay, including San Leandro, Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, Oakland, and Hayward.
What we expect from every athlete
Talent matters, but commitment, character, and consistency determine how a player develops.
Consistent Effort
Arrive prepared, train with purpose, and compete through every possession.
Team Accountability
Be dependable, accept coaching, communicate, and contribute to the team.
Academic Discipline
Take school seriously and develop habits that support success beyond basketball.
Character and Conduct
Represent Deen Team with respect, sportsmanship, humility, and integrity.
Competition that
strengthens identity.
Basketball development and character development should work together.
Deen Team challenges athletes to compete at a high level while remaining grounded in faith, discipline, service, and personal responsibility. Players learn that how they train, respond to adversity, and treat others matters just as much as the result on the scoreboard.
We develop the complete student-athlete—not only the basketball player.
Every practice, team experience, and competitive opportunity is used to reinforce habits that athletes can carry into school, family, community, and life.
The principles behind the program
Excellence
Give your best effort, pay attention to detail, and pursue improvement with intention.
Accountability
Honor your responsibilities, accept coaching, and be someone your teammates can depend on.
Discipline
Stay composed through challenges, remain consistent, and continue working when development becomes difficult.
Leadership
Listen, communicate, serve the team, and help create an environment where others can succeed.
One program.
Multiple pathways.
The right level creates the right challenge.
Deen Team serves boys 9U–18U through competitive pathways designed around each athlete’s current ability, readiness, and development needs. Placement is based on evaluation—not age alone.
High-Level Competition
For experienced athletes prepared for faster play, greater responsibility, and demanding competition.
Competitive Development
For developing athletes ready to strengthen their skills and learn how to perform consistently in team competition.
Team Foundation
For athletes beginning competitive team basketball who need a strong foundation, structured instruction, and meaningful game experience.
Finding the best environment for development
Coaches evaluate the complete athlete to determine the team level that will provide an appropriate balance of challenge, opportunity, and development.
Prepare with purpose.
Perform with confidence.
Team development requires more than showing up on game day.
Deen Team athletes follow a structured development program that builds individual skill, team execution, physical readiness, leadership, and the consistent habits required for competitive basketball.
Two structured team practices each week
Practices combine individual development with team preparation. Athletes are expected to arrive ready to learn, compete, communicate, and contribute to the group.
The complete training system
Individual Skills
Ball handling, shooting, finishing, footwork, defense, and position-specific development that prepares athletes for competitive play.
Game Execution
Spacing, movement, communication, decision-making, defensive responsibility, and understanding how to execute within a team.
Physical Readiness
Age-appropriate movement, speed, balance, strength, conditioning, and healthy habits that support athletic performance.
Personal Responsibility
Discipline, communication, resilience, academic accountability, and representing Deen Team with integrity on and off the court.
Clear instruction.
High expectations.
Coaches create an environment where athletes are challenged, supported, and held accountable. Instruction is direct and development-focused, helping players understand both what to do and why it matters.
Playing time and competitive opportunities are earned through preparation, effort, attitude, attendance, and the athlete’s ability to contribute to the team.
Prepare for what
comes next.
Recruiting readiness begins long before recruitment.
As athletes progress through Deen Team, they receive age-appropriate guidance that helps them understand higher-level basketball, academic responsibility, recruiting, leadership, and the decisions that shape their next opportunity.
Development happens in stages
Each stage builds on the habits and understanding developed before it.
Build the habits
Develop discipline, fundamentals, coachability, academic responsibility, and a consistent approach to improvement.
Meet the standard
Learn how to compete with greater pace, execute a role, communicate, prepare physically, and perform within a team.
Represent yourself
Understand how conduct, communication, game film, academic habits, and consistency shape how an athlete is evaluated.
Navigate the path
Learn to evaluate opportunities, ask informed questions, understand program fit, and make thoughtful decisions with family support.
Support for the complete student-athlete
Higher-Level Expectations
Athletes learn how preparation, communication, decision-making, physical readiness, and role execution change as competition becomes more demanding.
Accountability Beyond Basketball
Players are encouraged to take ownership of school, manage their responsibilities, communicate when support is needed, and understand that academics remain part of their athletic pathway.
Education Before Exposure
Older athletes and their families receive guidance that helps them understand recruiting communication, appropriate presentation, available pathways, and how to evaluate potential opportunities.
Preparation over promises.
Every athlete’s path is different. Deen Team helps players and families understand their options, establish realistic goals, and prepare for opportunities with confidence and clarity.
Participation does not guarantee placement, recruitment, or a scholarship. Our responsibility is to help athletes become more prepared, informed, and capable of representing themselves well.
Competition requires
commitment.
The team experience extends beyond practice.
Deen Team athletes apply their development through meaningful competition. Families play an important role by supporting attendance, communication, transportation, preparation, and the responsibilities that come with team participation.
A purposeful tournament schedule
Events are selected according to team level, age group, roster readiness, and the type of competition that best supports player development.
Select older teams may also receive out-of-state competition opportunities when the event, roster, and level of play are an appropriate fit.
What team commitment looks like
Be available and dependable
Athletes are expected to attend practices, games, and team activities consistently. Reliable attendance supports preparation, team chemistry, and fair roster planning.
Keep coaches informed
Families should communicate conflicts, absences, injuries, and availability as early as possible so coaches can prepare the team appropriately.
Arrive ready to compete
Players should arrive on time with the required uniform, equipment, hydration, nutrition, and mindset needed to represent the team well.
Plan as a family
Families are responsible for reviewing travel requirements and making the necessary transportation and accommodation arrangements for their athlete.
Clear details before each commitment.
Tournament schedules are provided to registered families as events are confirmed. Because organizers may adjust brackets, locations, and game times, families should remain flexible around tournament weekends.
Event selection may differ by team. Not every roster will attend every tournament, and travel opportunities are based on competitive level, player readiness, roster availability, and program objectives.
Event-specific travel requirements, additional expenses, and logistical details will be communicated before families confirm participation.
