Focus Shooting Workshop

“Stillness Before Precision”

Our athletes learns: the shot is made before the ball leaves the hands.

Principles

  • Niyyah (intention): every shot begins with purpose

  • Khushūʿ (focused presence): blocking distractions

  • Ihsan (excellence): doing one action with full awareness

Workshop Structure (60–75 min)

LEVEL 1

1. Opening (3 minutes)

We keep it simple and relatable:

“In prayer, we pause before speaking.
In shooting, we pause before releasing.
Focus creates accuracy.”

No sermon, just framing the intent.

2. The Focus Reset Drill (Foundation)

Goal: Teach athletes to slow the mind before shooting

Routine before EVERY shot:

  1. Eyes on rim

  2. Deep breath in

  3. Quiet exhale

  4. Set feet

  5. Shoot

Call it: “Set - See - Breathe - Shoot”

Explain:

When the mind is rushed, the body is rushed.

Run for 5 minutes close to the basket (no defense)

They begin to feel:
calm = control

3. The Niyyah Drill (Intentional Repetition)

Players must say quietly in their head before shooting:

“Straight”
or
“Soft”

They choose ONE target:

  • back rim

  • front rim

  • center net

Now every shot has intention.

Our Learning Goal:
Random shots = random results
Intentional shots = predictable results

LEVEL 2

4. Distraction Pressure Drill (Khushūʿ Training)

Create noise:

  • teammates clap

  • coach talks

  • countdown pressure

Rule:
Player must reset breath before shooting

If rushed → shot doesn’t count

Our Learning Goal:
Focus is chosen, not given.

5. The 5 Perfect Shots Challenge (Ihsan)

Not 5 makes.
5 correct form shots in a row.

Criteria:

  • balanced feet

  • follow through hold

  • arc

  • calm routine

Miss = restart count

Our Learning Goal:
Excellence is consistency, not luck.

6. Closing Reflection (2 minutes)

Short and powerful:

“The best shooters aren’t the strongest, they’re the most present.
Focus is a skill you practice here so you can use it everywhere.”

Our philosophy's intent

Kids don’t experience religion as instruction; they experience it as performance improvement.

They feel:

  • Breathing improves accuracy

  • Intention improves control

  • Calm improves results

Our Deen principles become real.
